Curls on the Block is curating a weekend of virtual experiences for families to enjoy
using the free Curls on the Block APP and view on social media platforms. Curls on the
Block is a non profit organization attracting girls of all curls and colors to embrace,
explore and empower their natural selves, using beauty to connect to STEAM (science,
technology, engineering, art and math).
With the recent passing of Landmark Federal Bill The CROWN ACT (Create a
Respectful and Open Workplace for Natural Hair) through the House of Representatives,
Curls on the Block is kicking off the weekend with a live panel discussing statewide
efforts featuring CO State Legislator, Leslie Herod, I Be Black Girl Founder Ashlei Spivey,
Crown Village co-founders Dr. Bernice Rumala & Shemekka Ebony Coleman on October
16th, 2020 at 6PM MST.
Using the free Curls on the Block APP, participants will have access to a digital
scavenger hunt featuring stores, salons and companies catering to the curly hair
community. Additionally there will be a unique virtual escape room experience
featuring rooms from the Black Girl Museum.
An author chat with Evette Dionne (Lifting as we Climb Black Women’s Battle for
the Ballot Box) will be streaming live on October 17, 2020 at 12 PM MST.
The weekend culminates on Sunday October 18, 2020, with a panel highlighting Black
Female Steminists: Dr. Kim Uweh, Toi Massey, Dr. Jen Roper at 11AM MST with the
first National Miss Curly USA Self-eSTEAM Pageant 2021 on October 18, 2020 at 2
PM for ticketed participants.
